{Sunday Stash} Summersville

 I had no choice but to purchase this fun little FQ stack of Summersville fabric from my fav LQS.

It kept saying "Buy me! Buy me! Take me home!" So I caved and add it to my stack.

There is also a green color-way, which I will probably be tracking down in the future.

After all, green is one of my favorite colors... besides orange, yellow, pink, brown, and grey!

There's nothing I enjoy more than creating something that I'll get to see every now and then... in their home, being loved and used.   I also get to cuddle under this quilt when I'm at sister's house.  Believe me I try not to steal it and accidentally take it back to my house.  Maybe I should file for shared custody...

{Stripe-eee Piecing}

I don't claim to be an expert on foundation piecing, believe me! This is only the second time using this permanent foundation piecing method. I discovered it making these pillows, and loved how easy it was... so why not apply the same technique on a larger scale?

 

 Here's the back side, you can see the overhang of fabric before trimming.  The foundation fabric is just white muslin from Joann's, works like a charm!

Here's how it looks after trimming off the excess, nice and straight!

Front... fair and square.

 

This is just one strip out of three for a king sized quilt (yeah, about 103" wide!)  There will be Kona Coal (grey) strips between each pieced strip... I think its going to look awesome!

Made Monday {Quilted String Block Pillow}

Finally, after two years, I finished a pillow for our bed!  It goes with the quilt I made just before little guy was born... and I'll tell ya - I want four more pillows to go with this one!

I just used the grey and green scraps left over from the quilt plus others I've acquired like the green Echino cars - love those cars - and the Metro Living circles and tiles.  But seriously, it all came out of my scrap bins.  I seriously need to downsize my scraps, which, making more pillows would help the cause, to be sure!

For the quilting I used my free-motion foot and did spiraling squares in each of the four blocks.  I wanted them to look hand drawn and not-quite-perfect, to off set the bold blocks and their angles.

   The light grey thread is pretty unobtrusive, which is how I like quilting thread to look.  I like to see the design of the quilting, not necessarily the color of the thread. 

I dug into some more Ikea fabric for the backing, I call it the icing on the cake!

I've officially started sewing a King sized quilt as a custom order, so I may a bit distanced from blogging for a bit.  Don't worry, I'll try to pop in every now and then to say hi.

more QAYG blocks & notebook paper fabric

August 2010 I started making these (not surprisingly) FUN blocks, along with Penny of Sew Take a Hike.  You quilt them as you go thus I call them my Quilt As You Go blocks.  Clever, eh?

I finally decided to make some more just to keep my sewing machine going as I'm in between big projects at the moment.  And yes, I'm still loving them!   Still no where close to having enough for a lap quilt, but I'll get there!  Want more info on the process?  Check it out here!

I've seen notebook fabric here and there for not an affordable price but THEN I saw Timeless Treasures had a print in The Pixie Pops collection, and I had to grab some!

Isn't it fun?

When making quilt labels I think this will be adroable!  Not to mention keeping my words straight as I use alphabet stamps... one... letter... at... a... time.

Said Notebook Paper fabric is from Fresh Modern Fabric on Etsy... and she even included four squares of fabric I had never seen before, from the Hello Pilgrim collection by Lizzy House.  YUMMY!  I may be placing another order with them soon!

I'm such a sucker for greens and blues!
