So this is one of my two big WIPs... daunting eh? I had some help making all these string blocks thanks to the lovely ladies of the {Bee}autiful VQB on Flickr. Um, back in September. Each block is 12" square.

Not surprisingly, I don't have near enough blocks as I'd like! And I'm nearly out of the Darcey fabric that makes up the blues and greens. Therefore, I'll be mixing in a few other non-Darcey prints of similar blues and greens... hopefully it won't throw the whole thing off.
And if it does, I'm keeping this quilt - so no one will be the wiser. Except me.

I'm also thinking of dividing sets of 4 blocks with white sashing, (like this) although I know that will diminish the overall impact. I'm just looking for ways to make it BIGGER. I'll work up some more blocks and see how big it turns out. Or I could add an outside border? Not a huge fan of borders but to make it bigger... might do the trick!
Anyone want to swap their Darcey fabric with me?
I have Japanese grey elephants... :-)

Gorgeous!!!
That would be neat having 4 squares sashed by white. Definitely a modern look! Love it, can't wait to see this one finished :)
wow! this is a really impressive quilt so far. can't wait to see how it finishes up!
FABULOUS string quilt! I actually did what you are considering--put every four blocks inside of white sashing (http://livelystitches.blogspot.com/2010/11/part-3-string-quilt-top.html or http://www.flickr.com/photos/7808968@N07/5173357107/).
I love the colors! I need to make a string quilt SOON.
No sashing! Make two or Three outer borders with White, Green And Blue :)

That looks great! I've been excited to see these together. I actually have some Darcey sitting on my shelves and would love some grey elephants. This quilt has all of the prints I have in it - http://www.flickr.com/photos/41737995@N03/4703544143/
I also have some RLD green stripes I could swap as well. Let me know!

Oh, it's just gorgeous! You're right about sashing diminishing the look of your quilt. With the fabulous two-tone thing you have going on, I think a border is a much better idea if you can't get enough blocks. Hopefully you can track down the extra fabric!
Oh my goodness! It's beautiful!
Very lovely fabrics, and the combination is stunning
I wish I had some Darcey fabric. It is fabulous!!
