Penny over at Sew Take A Hike got me started on these pretty little "quilt as you go" blocks. I originally told myself I'd make a nine block quilt just to see if I even liked making them...
Well, I'm a fan, as you can probably see! And I think I will continue making blocks until I have a decent sized lap quilt. Not only do I get to use up a boat load of scraps, but I get quilt each block as I go and not have to stress over that sometimes overwhelming step at the end! Wanna try this technique for yourself? Go here.... and start sorting your scraps! As a side note, my blocks are only 10" square... I think Penny makes 15" blocks. Just make whatever size floats your boat~

She's got me hooked now too Cristin! I think I'm up to 14? They are such a nice break from my bigger projects, I always have a couple going! I'm doing mine as 8" blocks, the better to use up my batting scraps.
I really like this idea! But just one question: how do you attach them all together without making the bulkiest seams ever?
We are doing these blocks for our BEE this month. I'm looking forward to trying the quilt as you go method, and have a feeling I too will be making a whole quilt afterwards! Lovely blocks :)
these are gorgeous...i love them.
Lovely and colourful - I too have fallen for the 'quilt-as-you-go' bug. not only can you use scraps for the blocks but left-over wadding and sashing. Takes the stress of quilting a huge piece and allows you to just keep on adding.
I love all your blocks, so colourful and interesting to look at! They really stand out from the dark background they are photographed on too.
oh! It's gorgeous! I can't pick a favorite block. I love them all!
They are all lovely! I need to get started on this myself... lagging behind. Thanks for sharing!
Wow! Those blocks are beautiful! I have never tried quilt as you go, I've been very intimidated. Maybe i'll give it a go! Thanks!
These are just - stunning.
So flat, so crisp. I wanna see step two and step three - putting them together, getting the back attached.
LOVE this QAYG concept - very peaceful. Thanks for sharing FABULOUS blocks!!
love these! i've been wanting to try this for a while.... thanks for the motivation!
I love quilt as you go blocks, I'm starting a QAYG quilt tomorrow with Anna Maria fabrics I've been collecting.
Yours is looking fantastic
What fun. I keep promising myself that I won't make any more quilt-as-you-go because of the time spent assembling, but it's so tempting
this might be my favorite ever.
LOVE.
