I've been wanting to sew a little outfit for Eli since he was born, and heaven knows I'm no seamstress! I coerced my MIL into helping me decipher and sew a pattern from Amy Butler's book Little Stitches for Little Ones. These are the Kimono Style Pajamas featured on the cover of the book, and they are easier to make than the directions in the book make them out to be. My partner-in-crime has lots of experience with traditional clothing patterns and she agrees. I don't know if any of you have made this set, if so, what did you think about the process?
The single-fold bias tape didn't make any sense - neither how to make it nor how to attach it to the top. It was sort of like quilt binding, sort of. So we decided to wing it and it turned out just fine... as I knew it would! And boy are these jammies adorable! Eli loves red and orange (what baby doesn't?) so I bought this fun Tufted Tweets fabric from my fav little fabric shop in Clintonville. I used the size 6-9 month pattern and its a tad large on the boy. He's about 5 months old now, and well over 16lbs. I was hoping they'd fit for the fall and early winter, which should be about right. The little ties are my favorite, one on the inside and one on the outside.
As usual, I couldn't choose just one photo, so here are a few more! Smiles all around!
~He's such a good little baby model~

so sweet!! i haven't sewn any little outfits for ellie yet-- but, once again, you've inspired me. kimono pjs= awesome. he's like a little samurai!
What a cutie!! Love the jammies, too!
Those PJs are adorable but Eli is just the cutest thing EVER! I want to come over there and kiss him!
I made a few of these sets before Lucy was born. I don't recall having any problems with the pattern or instructions. Unfortunately we just didn't find them very functional-plain old knit jammies were just more comfy for Lucy. But luckily we got some cute shots of her in them too. I hope Eli finds them cozy because he is just too cute in them!
Very cute. The pj's aren't too bad either!!
Fantastic PJs (I do love that line) and what a handsome little baby you have!
I just made these pj's as well and posted on my blog too- I agree that that book is often hard to follow. I found the instructions on attaching the binding around the neck to be the most confusing.
Sorry, I couldn't even look at those jammies with that adorable little face smiling out of them!! He is the cutest baby in the WORLD!! Please pinch his cheek for me :)
(Ok ... saw the jammies and they are adorable too)
You can't get any cuter than that. You did a great job too!!!!!
I love those jammies!!!! So super cute! You I find clothing patterns are often more difficult to read than the actual sewing is! Glad you included more than one picture of the little one, so super cute!
I want a set of those jammies myself!!
oh they are gorgeous. Well done.
Oh my these are adorable!! and so is your little boy!!!
Cutest.Baby.Ever.!!!
He is just so darn cute!
Okay, the pj's are cute but he is just ADORABLE... What a perfect model.
... and you'd be an instant millionaire selling the bottled smiles :)
Can I backorder a couple of bottles just in case you succeed?
He is such a doll!! Good job on the PJ's, too. He looks just like you, I think. :)
snuggly and adorable. too perfect to not share. :)
I just popped over here after seeing one of your flickr pictures, and immediately realized I know you from La Leche League! :)
These are adorable pj's and Eli is growing up so fast! What a sweetie!
